The Bluffton Historical Preservation Society is a non-profit organization located in Bluffton, South Carolina, dedicated to preserving the town's rich history and cultural heritage. Founded in 1981, the society is committed to collecting, preserving, and promoting the history and culture of Bluffton and the surrounding Lowcountry region.

The society operates a museum in the historic Heyward House, which was built in 1841 and is one of the few remaining antebellum homes in the area. Mercer Williams House Museum 5675 <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercer_House_" rel="noreferrer nofollow">en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercer_House_</a>(Savannah,_Georgia) Mercer House (now the Mercer Williams House Museum) is located at 429 Bull Street in Savannah, Georgia.[3] Completed in 1868, it occupies the southwestern civic block of Monterey Square. The house was the scene of the 1981 killing of Danny Hansford by the home's owner, Jim Williams, a story that is retold in the 1994 John Berendt book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The house is also featured in the movie adaptation of the book, released three years later.
Port of Savannah Savannah's port is next to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, where this landscape that is so rich in birds and wildlife has been preserved. The refuge was one of my favorite stops.
Savannah: America's first planned city? Established in 1733, <a href="https://visitsavannah.com/article/history-savannah" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Savannah claims</a> it is America's first planned city.† Georgia's founder and member of Britain's Parliament, Mr. James Oglethorpe designed the layout of Savannah, which was the first settlement in 1733 of the brand-new colony of Georgia. The Oxford graduate envisioned a land where the liberal ideals of the Enlightenment could be realized. The <a href="https://www.asce.org/about-civil-engineering/history-and-heritage/historic-landmarks/city-plan-of-savannah#:~:text=The city plan of Savannah, emulated by urban planners today." rel="noreferrer nofollow">American Society of Civil Engineers observes</a> of Savannah's original city layout: "The repetitive non-hierarchal placement of wards, squares, and equal-sized lots points to the utopian ideals of the colony." -- †Note: With due respect to the deeply historical and great city of Savannah, <a href="https://connecticuthistory.org/towns-page/new-haven/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">New Haven, Connecticut (est. 1638) says it is America's first planned city</a>. And didn't William Penn do something with Philadelphia? Correct me if I'm wrong but I also vaguely recall that <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_St._Augustine,_Florida" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Saint Augustine in Florida</a> (est. 1565) predated Jamestown and Plymouth settlements. Besides a big European-style brick fort, didn't it have a planned Spanish grid layout? But hey, Spanish-colony and Catholic. Doesn't count, right?😉 Having said that, this tourist saw a clear difference between the Enlightenment-inspired layout of Georgia's Savannah (see American Society of Civil Engineers comment above: e.g. non-hierarchical, parks equally available for each, abolitionist, equal-sized property plots) and Florida's pre-Enlightenment settlement of Saint Augustine.
