The 371st Historical Society in Columbia, SC is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the 371st Infantry Regiment, a unit of the 93rd Infantry Division that served with distinction during World War I. The 371st was one of the first African American units to serve in the war and was one of the few to see combat in Europe. The 371st was known for its courage and tenacity in battle, and was awarded two Croix de Guerre, the highest French award for bravery.
The Society works to bring to light the history of the 371st and to honor its members through educational and community activities. The Society collects artifacts, documents, and other materials related to the 371st Regiment and its veterans. They also host lectures and other events to educate the public about the history of the 371st and its members.
The Society also provides assistance to veterans and their families. They provide assistance with researching military records, obtaining veteran's benefits, and locating gravesites. They also provide community outreach services and volunteer opportunities.
