Volkswagen Transporter T3 (Typ 2, 1985 - 1992) The T3 was the third generation of a line of small vans produced by Volkswagen. It was the last of these vans to offer rear-wheel-drive and a rear mounted engine, ending decades of rear drive, rear (air cooled) engines. The switch, which happened with the T4, meant better ergonomics inside, increasing cargo and passenger space dramatically. The T3 was sold in the United States as the Vanagon; elsewhere, it carried names such as Caravelle or T25.
