Over yonder under the live oak trees, see? The Saint Helena Chapel of Ease ruins is older than dirt. Built in 1740, the Anglican chapel was used to worship by plantation parishioners until it was consumed by the forest fire of 1886. Only its brick walls remain.

How y’all doin’? Can you carry me to the store? –Southern saying (Got room for one more rider?) This is taken at Tomotley, a southern plantation from 1698, Sheldon, Beaufort County, South Carolina.
Looks greener than gooey gourd guts –a Southern saying in which alliteration is appreciated. This is the entrance to Tomotley Plantation. This is a particularly picturesque live oak alley in the Lowcountry. The live oak trees are covered with Spanish moss. A location scout found this place in South Carolina. The movies would have you believe that it is Forrest's home in Greenbow, Alabama (Google Maps cannot find a place with that name).
Old church ruins at Sheldon in the Lowcountry The remnants of this church are in South Carolina's Lowcountry; specifically, northern Beaufort County. What once was Prince William's Parish Church is now just referred to as Old Sheldon Church ruins. It was built in Sheldon, circa 1745-53, before America's revolution against Britain, its monarchy, and its parliament.

Old Sheldon Church The historical marker at the site reads: "Prince William's Parish Church (Sheldon Church). These ruins are of Prince William's Parish Church, built ca. 1751-57 and partially burned during the American Revolution, with its interior and roof rebuilt 1825-26. This Anglican church was primarily paid for by Lt. Gov. William Bull I (1683-1755), who is buried here. It is often called Sheldon, after Bull's plantation. Local Loyalists burned the church in 1779 during a raid by Gen. Augustine Prevost. It was assumed by many area residents in 1865 and has been widely believed since that Federal troops burned Sheldon Church during the last months of the Civil War.
