Kuzco the Border Collie in Marion Square (Charleston, South Carolina) - November 12th, 2024 In town for the Charleston Conference in the second full week of November. I noticed someone playing with a border collie at Marion Square. Kuzco is a three year old pup and brought me the frisbee. So I started throwing it - and taking pictures. What a great pup!

Friends of the Hunley is a non-profit organization located in North Charleston, South Carolina. The organization's primary goal is to preserve and protect the Confederate submarine, the H.L. Hunley, which was the first submarine to sink an enemy warship in combat. The Hunley sank the Union ship Housatonic during the Civil War in 1864, but then disappeared for over a century until it was finally discovered in 1995, and later raised from the ocean floor in 2000.

Friends of the Hunley was founded in 1995 shortly after the discovery of the submarine by a group of passionate historians and preservationists. The organization has since been dedicated to raising awareness about the Hunley and its historical significance, as well as raising funds to support its preservation and restoration.

The organization operates the Warren Lasch Conservation Center, which houses the Hunley and serves as a research and conservation facility. The center is open to the public for tours, and visitors can learn about the history of the Hunley and the ongoing conservation efforts to preserve the submarine for future generations.

Friends of the Hunley also conducts educational outreach programs to schools and communities in the Charleston area, providing lectures and hands-on activities to teach students about the science, history, and engineering behind the Hunley's innovative design. The organization also hosts special events throughout the year, including an annual Hunley Symposium and a fundraising gala.

Overall, Friends of the Hunley plays a vital role in preserving an important piece of American history and educating the public about the significance of the H.L. Hunley and its impact on naval warfare.
