The Exeter Historical Association (EHA) is a non-profit organization located in Exeter, Rhode Island. Founded in 1976, the mission of the organization is to preserve, interpret, and promote the history of Exeter and its environs. To that end, the EHA maintains a library and archives, a museum, and two historic sites.
The EHA library and archives houses a collection of books, periodicals, and manuscripts related to the history of Exeter and its people. The museum contains a variety of artifacts, including furniture, artwork, tools, household items, and other objects related to the history of the area. The EHA also operates two historic sites: the Museum of Exeter and the Governor William Bradford House.
The Museum of Exeter is a 19th century Greek Revival house, which serves as the headquarters of the EHA. The museum features several exhibits related to the history of Exeter, including the Exeter Historical Society Collection and the Bradfords’ Family Collection.
The Governor William Bradford House is a 17th century house, which is believed to have been built by William Bradford, the fourth governor of Rhode Island. The house was restored by the EHA in the late 1970s, and it now serves as a living museum that offers educational programs and public tours.
The EHA also offers a variety of educational programs and public events throughout the year. These include lectures, book discussions, and an annual open house. In addition, the EHA provides research assistance to students, teachers, and genealogists.
