The Gilbert Stuart Birthplace is a historic site located in Saunderstown, Rhode Island. The birthplace was the home of the famous American portrait artist Gilbert Stuart, who was born here in 1755. The house was originally built by Gilbert’s father, also named Gilbert Stuart. It is a two-and-a-half story farmhouse with a gambrel roof and a central chimney. The house is clapboarded and features a five-bay facade.

The Gilbert Stuart Birthplace is operated by the Rhode Island Historical Society, who have opened the house to the public for tours. Visitors can explore the house and its outbuildings, which include a barn, an icehouse, and a herb garden. Inside the house, visitors can view furniture and artifacts from the family's time period.

The Gilbert Stuart Birthplace is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark. It is located within the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Heritage Museum, which also includes a museum, library, and education center. The museum offers educational programs for students of all ages. The site is open to visitors from April to October during the months of Friday – Sunday from 10am – 4pm.
