The Pennhurst Memorial and Preservation Alliance (PMPA) is a non-profit organization based in Havertown, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2012, the organization is dedicated to preserving and memorializing the history of Pennhurst State School and Hospital, a former institution for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities which operated from 1903 to 1987. The PMPA's mission is to preserve the history of Pennhurst, honor the individuals who lived and worked there, and educate the public about the impact of institutionalization.
The PMPA works to achieve this mission through a variety of initiatives, including public events, memorials, educational programs, and tours. Public events include lectures and panel discussions, as well as workshops and performances. Memorials include monuments and memorial gardens. Educational programs include classroom visits, outreach programs, and guided tours of the Pennhurst campus.
