Frostburg State University Arboretum in Allegany County, Maryland Known for their strong flavor, ramps are a popular foraged delicacy—especially in West Virginia—that emerge during spring in Appalachian forests. But, they are sensitive to habitat loss and overharvesting. Though the broad-leafed ramp is more common, the narrow-leafed ramp is much rarer and possibly even extirpated from New York.
