The National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1935 to preserve and promote the knowledge and appreciation of American railroading. The Philadelphia chapter of the NRHS was founded in 1947, and has been an active participant in the region's rail heritage ever since. The chapter is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of railway artifacts, photographs, documents, and other materials that help to tell the story of railroading in the Philadelphia area.
The chapter also hosts monthly meetings, special events, excursions, and museum tours to provide members with the opportunity to learn about and experience the history of railroading in the region. Members also have access to a large collection of railroad artifacts, including books, documents, photographs, and equipment. Additionally, the chapter works to restore historic railroad artifacts to their original condition, and to help promote railroading in the region by participating in parades, festivals, and other public events.
The Philadelphia chapter of the NRHS is a vital part of the city's rail heritage, and has worked to preserve and promote the knowledge and appreciation of American railroading for more than seventy years. Their efforts have helped to ensure that the rail heritage of Philadelphia and the surrounding area is remembered and appreciated for generations to come.
