Autumn Moonrise thru the Covered Bridge Hunsecker’s Mill Bridge is a central Pennsylvania landmark and holds the record for the longest span of any covered bridge in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The wooden bridge was first built in 1848 and rebuilt in 1973 following hurricane damage. Using Stellarium and some good ole’ fashion trigonometry, the optimal time to photograph the rising full moon through the historic bridge was determined. If you look closely, you can see the familiar “V” pattern of Hyades as well as the Pleiades cluster near the top of the star field.

The Meteor and the Flower Moon LPOD on June 7, 2013 -- lpod.wikispaces.com/June+7%2C+2013 ( <a href="http://lpod.wikispaces.com/June+7,+2013" rel="noreferrer nofollow">lpod.wikispaces.com/June+7,+2013</a> ) A bright meteor along with the full "flower" moon are seen illuminating the Lancaster, PA countryside. The image was made of 415 twenty second exposures (about 2.5 hours). Each image was taken with a Canon T2i (f/5.0 with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens @ 14 mm / ISO 400) and stacked using StarStax. This must have been some meteor! I unfortunately must have been looking away but at least it was captured in the image.
Stars and Moonlight on the Snowy Conestoga This photograph was taken at Perelman Park in Lancaster, Pennsylvania shortly after a couple of inches of fresh snow fell. It was an extremely cold evening causing very light snowflakes that seemed to have an iridescent effect in the moonlight. In the bottom right of the photograph, glistening snow can be seen reflecting the light of the full moon. Thick fog began to roll in along the Conestoga River creating a diffusion effect that eventually obscured my view of the night sky. A Canon T2i and a Sigma 10-20 mm lens at 10mm was used to encompass the entire scene. The short star trail sequence was made of 30 ten second exposures (400 ISO, f/5.0) while the longer sequence was made of 112 ten second exposures (400 ISO, f/5.0).
