THE DELAWARE AND LEHIGH NATIONAL HERITA

EASTON, PA

The Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L Trail) is a 165-mile long linear park that follows the path of the Lehigh and Delaware rivers in eastern Pennsylvania. It is the nation’s first multi-use recreational trail that connects numerous historical, cultural, and recreational destinations, including Bethlehem, Jim Thorpe, and Easton. The trail runs through five counties in Pennsylvania, including Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Luzerne. It is managed by the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Commission, which works to preserve and promote the cultural, historic, recreational, and economic resources of the region.

The D&L Trail has something for everyone, from the casual hiker to the experienced cyclist. It features several trails for biking, hiking, and horseback riding, all of which are well-maintained and marked with interpretive signs. In Easton, the trail follows the Delaware Canal, which offers spectacular views of the river. Along the trail, visitors can explore the area’s rich history, including the sites of several Revolutionary War battles, canal locks, and canal towns. There are also several visitor centers and museums, such as the Hugh Moore Park and Museum, which focuses on the history of the Lehigh and Delaware canals. The D&L Trail is an important part of the region’s cultural and economic heritage, and provides a great way to explore the history and beauty of eastern Pennsylvania.
