Philadelphia Mural Arts Advocates is a non-profit organization dedicated to the transformation of public spaces through the visual arts. Founded in 1984, the organization works with communities in Philadelphia to create meaningful and inspiring works of art to foster a sense of pride and community. The organization has helped to create more than 3,600 public artworks, many of which have been recognized internationally.
The group works with communities to identify issues in their neighborhood and develop public art projects that address those issues. The organization also hosts educational workshops, lectures and other events to promote the appreciation and understanding of public art. In addition, the organization works with local schools to provide hands-on mural-making activities for students, and provides job-training for local artists.
