The Modern Club of Philadelphia Inc Sweetbrier Mansion in Bryn Mawr, PA is a historical and architectural monument that has been in existence since the late 19th century. The mansion was built in 1885 by prominent Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was originally the home of Charles and Anne Jones and their children, and was later purchased by the Modern Club in 1929.
The mansion is a three-story, red brick, Italianate-style home with a symmetrical façade and a two-story portico. The interior features a grand staircase, ornate plasterwork, and a spectacular stained glass skylight. The first floor features a large ballroom, a library, and a music room, while the second floor contains bedrooms and a formal parlor.
The mansion is situated on five acres of landscaped grounds, including a terraced garden, an in-ground swimming pool, and a gazebo. The grounds are also home to a variety of trees, including several century-old oaks, and a variety of flowering shrubs and plants.
The Modern Club of Philadelphia Inc Sweetbrier Mansion is open to the public for tours, educational programs, and special events. It is also available for private rentals and functions, such as weddings, anniversaries, and business meetings.
