PAXTANG HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Paxtang Historical Society was formed in 1949 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and is dedicated to researching, collecting and preserving the history of Harrisburg, Dauphin County and the surrounding region. The Society is staffed entirely by volunteers and funded through donations, membership dues and grants.
The Society’s main activities include the collection of artifacts, archival materials, photographs and documents pertaining to the history of the region and its inhabitants. The materials are housed in the Society's library and archives at the Paxtang Mansion in Harrisburg. The Mansion is also the site of the Society’s public lectures, seminars and other events.
The Society is also actively involved in the preservation of historic buildings and sites in Harrisburg, Dauphin County and the surrounding region. It sponsors walking tours, lectures and special events, such as the Halloween Haunted House at the Paxtang mansion.
The Society also publishes a quarterly newsletter and operates a gift shop at the Paxtang Mansion, where visitors can purchase books, prints, and other items related to the history of the area.
In addition, the Society is involved in a variety of educational activities, including the creation of lesson plans for teachers and the organization of student field trips to local historic sites.
