Lower Columbia Preservation Society (LCPS) is a non-profit organization based in Astoria, Oregon, dedicated to preserving the historic and cultural heritage of the Lower Columbia region. The society was founded in 1967 by a group of concerned citizens who saw the need to protect the area's unique architectural and cultural heritage from the pressures of modern development.

The society's mission is to promote the preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse of historic buildings, structures, and sites in the Lower Columbia region. I am using a slow, 1/8&quot; shutter to try an capture the massive volume of water that rushes in about every 15 to 20 mins at incoming king high tide. Just as I triggered the shutter a man walks up to the edge of the dune drop-off (the black dot). This section of the beach near Cape D North Jetty is dry one moment and then 10ft deep filled with logs and debris a moment later. It is powerful, scary, dynamic, and people often put themselves in the path of these huge moments.

“Don’t forget to look both ways!” - Astoria, Oregon A mother and her young crossing the street in front of the historic Astoria National Bank (now The Banker's Ballroom and Boutique). Architect John E. Wicks designed the plans for the Astoria National Bank building in 1923. Niemi and Company completed the construction of this Classic American Renaissance building in 1924 at a cost of $100,000.00. The bank opened for business on February 25th, 1924 and went into receivership on February 25, 1928. The building remained vacant for two years until 1930 when the newly-chartered Bank of Astoria occupied the building. On July 13, 1937 the United States Bank of Portland bought the Bank of Astoria and occupied the building until 1973 after which the bank building was used to store costumes by the Astor Street Opry Company.

The Liberty Theatre - Astoria, Oregon The Liberty Theater is a historic vaudeville theater and cinema in Astoria, Oregon, United States. Opened in 1925 as the first theater to be re-established after the destruction of the Astoria fire of 1922, the Liberty Theater was seen as symbolizing the city's rebirth. Its Italian Renaissance architectural and decorative style was unique among Astoria's commercial buildings and stood out from the rest of the post-fire reconstruction. The building was built for the theater chain of Claude Jensen and John von Herberg, one of over thirty venues they operated throughout the Pacific Northwest, and was designed by the Portland architectural firm of Bennes and Herzog.

The historic Hotel Astoria - Astoria, Oregon The John Jacob Astor Hotel, originally known as the Hotel Astoria, is a historic former hotel building located in Astoria, Oregon, United States, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). It is one of the tallest buildings on the Oregon Coast and is a &quot;prominent landmark&quot; in Astoria. Constructed in 1922–23, the hotel opened in 1924 and initially was the city's social and business hub, but soon was beset with a variety of problems, and struggled financially for years. Constructed of reinforced concrete, the eight-story John Jacob Astor Hotel building features Gothic decorative elements. The seventh floor is decorated with several escutcheons, one every third window, and the window groups at the building's corners at this level are additionally topped by rounded arches &quot;embellished with elaborate cartouches in cast stone&quot;. Each group of three windows at the mezzanine level, or second floor, includes two Corinthian pilasters and is topped by a pointed arch and a frieze with three small shields above.
