The Limestone County Historical Society (LCHS) is dedicated to preserving the history of Limestone County, Alabama. Founded in 1973, the society is made up of volunteers who are dedicated to preserving the historical legacy of the area. LCHS is located in Athens, Alabama and serves a large area stretching from Huntsville to Florence.

The LCHS is a non-profit organization and its mission is to promote the history of Limestone County. The Society works to collect, preserve, interpret and make available for research the history and culture of the county. The Society also strives to promote public education and appreciation of the county’s history.

LCHS works towards its mission by hosting events, such as lectures and workshops, publishing books, and maintaining a museum and archives. The museum displays a variety of artifacts such as tools, photographs, and documents related to the county’s history. The archives contain more than 50,000 photographs and books, as well as a variety of maps, newspapers, and other documents.

The Society also offers educational programs, such as tours of historic sites, and hosts a variety of special events, such as the annual Christmas Open House. The Society also awards scholarships to students majoring in history or related fields.

The LCHS is a great resource for anyone interested in learning about the history of Limestone County. The Society is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the county’s history and culture for generations to come.

Rockets Away! 2012 Student Launch Projects (NASA, Marshall, 4/22/12) Specially crafted rockets soared high into the skies April 22 at the 2011-12 NASA Student Launch Projects challenge. More than 500 students, representing 53 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in 28 states, launched rockets of their own design -- complete with working science payloads or engineering payloads -- at Bragg Farms in Toney, Ala. The students vied to see whose rocket could come closest to the 1-mile altitude goal and safely return its onboard science payload to Earth. Fifty-one teams took part, though two faced mechanical or technical issues and did not launch. Ten preliminary awards were presented, and the grand prize -- $5,000 from ATK Aerospace Group in Salt Lake City, Utah -- will be awarded May 18 after final post-flight analysis and review are complete. This is the fifth year ATK has sponsored Student Launch Projects. Riverwild Sculpture Garden - Decatur, AL Located at Decatur's Delano Park, the Riverwild Sculpture Garden features the artwork of locals Frank Fleming and Bruce Larsen. The archway in the front is Larsen's "Heron Great Tree Gateway" made in 2010 of steel and found objects in tribute to Margaret Palmer Vann. In the background is Fleming's "The Big Turtle" made in 2009 of bronze in memory of Elizabeth Ann Vickery.

Chevrons on Garrett Road I thought this came out nicely, the chevrons show a textbook example of depth of field and the colors aren't bad when the light is in your favor. NASA Social (Feb 2, 2015)3 State of NASA event at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center on Monday, Feb. 2 On Monday, Feb. 2 NASA Marshall invited social media followers to an in-person State of NASA event. The event included a tour of the center which showcased highlights of the work Marshall is doing on the Space Launch System, NASA’s new heavy lift rocket. Another tour segment included the development and maintenance on the advanced life support systems on the International Space Station, as well as the life support systems that could be used on future exploration missions to Mars and other deep space destinations.
