Oregon Women's History Consortium (OWHC) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization based in Portland, Oregon. OWHC was founded in 1985 by a group of volunteers dedicated to celebrating and preserving the history of women in Oregon. The organization is committed to collecting, preserving, and interpreting women’s stories and to educating the public about the contributions that women have made to the region.
The mission of the OWHC is to promote awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the role of women in the history of Oregon. To achieve this, the OWHC sponsors events, lectures, and exhibitions to educate the public about women’s history in Oregon. The organization also works to increase the number of women represented in textbooks and other materials used in history and social studies classes.
The OWHC also serves as an advocate for the preservation of historically significant women’s sites and artifacts. The organization works with state and local government to ensure that these sites are protected and preserved. Additionally, the OWHC works with other non-profit organizations to create and promote educational and cultural programs that celebrate the contributions of Oregon women.
The OWHC is funded through memberships, donations, grants, and fundraising events. The organization also receives additional support from its affiliates, which include museums, libraries, and other organizations dedicated to preserving the history of Oregon women.
