The Clatsop County Historical Society in Astoria, Oregon, was founded in 1931 and is devoted to preserving the history and culture of the area. The society is a non-profit organization and has a membership of over 700 people. The society collects, preserves, and interprets the history of Clatsop County and its people from prehistoric times to the present.

The society owns and operates two museum sites. The first is the Flavel House Museum, which was the home of prominent early Astorian Captain George Flavel. Architect John E. Wicks designed the plans for the Astoria National Bank building in 1923. Niemi and Company completed the construction of this Classic American Renaissance building in 1924 at a cost of $100,000.00. The bank opened for business on February 25th, 1924 and went into receivership on February 25, 1928. The building remained vacant for two years until 1930 when the newly-chartered Bank of Astoria occupied the building. On July 13, 1937 the United States Bank of Portland bought the Bank of Astoria and occupied the building until 1973 after which the bank building was used to store costumes by the Astor Street Opry Company.

As of 2012, the service was reported as carrying 35,000 to 40,000 passengers per year and has been called a &quot;symbol&quot;[1] and &quot;icon&quot; of Astoria. The line's operation is seasonal, normally during spring break and from May through September.

The historic Hotel Astoria - Astoria, Oregon The John Jacob Astor Hotel, originally known as the Hotel Astoria, is a historic former hotel building located in Astoria, Oregon, United States, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). It is one of the tallest buildings on the Oregon Coast and is a &quot;prominent landmark&quot; in Astoria. Constructed in 1922–23, the hotel opened in 1924 and initially was the city's social and business hub, but soon was beset with a variety of problems, and struggled financially for years. Constructed of reinforced concrete, the eight-story John Jacob Astor Hotel building features Gothic decorative elements. The seventh floor is decorated with several escutcheons, one every third window, and the window groups at the building's corners at this level are additionally topped by rounded arches &quot;embellished with elaborate cartouches in cast stone&quot;. Each group of three windows at the mezzanine level, or second floor, includes two Corinthian pilasters and is topped by a pointed arch and a frieze with three small shields above.
