The Oregon Rail Heritage Center (ORHC) is a museum in Portland, Oregon dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Oregon's rail heritage. Located in Southeast Portland, the museum is open to the public and houses three historic locomotives and rolling stock. ORHC was established as a nonprofit organization in 2000 and opened to the public in 2012.
The museum is home to three historic locomotives: Southern Pacific 4449, Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company 197, and Spokane, Portland and Seattle 700. Southern Pacific 4449 is a restored steam locomotive that was the last steam locomotive built for a Class 1 railroad in the United States. Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company 197 is a restored diesel-electric locomotive built in 1941. Spokane, Portland and Seattle 700 is a restored 4-8-4 Northern-type steam locomotive built in 1938.
In addition to the locomotives, ORHC also has a collection of rolling stock and artifacts that tell the story of Oregon's rail history. The museum also has a library, archives, and a research center for those interested in the history of Oregon's railroads.
ORHC offers a variety of educational programs for adults and children. The museum is open for guided tours and offers special events throughout the year.
