In recognition of the college's unique history and its distinctive, architectural characteristics, the National Park Service formally listed the "Oklahoma College for Women Historic District" on its National Register of Historic Places on September 9, 2001. This designation makes the college the only campus in Oklahoma higher education to be listed as an historic district. The Oklahoma College for Women Historic District contains 14 buildings and four other structures. To qualify these resources must be at least 50 years of age, and must be compatible with the college's architectural style, Qualifying structures include the north gate, oval entry gates, and a 1924 stone bench. The granite marker states: Oklahoma College for Women National Historic District Administration Building In 1909, the Oklahoma Legislature appropriated $100,000 for construction of the first building on the campus of the Oklahoma Industrial Institute and College for Girls. Built in the Renaissance style, the building was designed by Smith & Parr, a McAlester firm. In 1936, architect Joseph Overton Parr won an AIA masterpiece award for his design of the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall. An imposing structure oriented toward the east, the Administration Building was three stories high, 220 feet long, and 142 feet wide. The first floor contained a kitchen and cafeteria, the second floor housed classrooms and laboratories plus the president's and other offices, and the third floor served as a library and small dormitory for 40 students. The basement functioned as a gymnasium. A major renovation in 1926 added the Main Auditorium to the west. Built of cream pressed brick with gray stone trim, the Administration Building became the architectural model for all the campus buildings on the oval. It retains its architectural integrity, and is listed as a contributing resource within the Oklahoma College for Women National Historic District.

The granite marker states: (FRONT) Nellie Gaines Sparks This dormitory was located on the original 20-acre, campus of the Oklahoma Industrial Institute and College for Girls. The site was part of a 160-acre homestead allotment made by the Dawes Commission to Nellie Gaines Sparks, a young citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. Nellie Sparks was the daughter of J. B. "Buck" Sparks, a pioneer Oklahoma rancher and intermarried citizen of the Chickasaws. Nellie died at age nineteen while attending William Woods College, a private female school in Fulton, Missouri. In memory of his daughter, J. B. Sparks donated 20 acres of her original allotment for the establishment of a women's college in the new State of Oklahoma. In a solemn ceremony which took place on May 27, 1914, this dormitory was dedicated in honor of Nellie, who died January 25, 1904. Although she never knew the legacy she left to her Oklahoma sisters and brothers, the dormitory has housed thousands of students with fond memories from 1914 through the present. It originally featured 18 broad concrete steps leading to a second-floor landing, where an immense lounge and lobby awaited. A southwest wing was added in 1917 to house another 80 students. A renovation in 1951-52 resulted in the removal of the cafeteria and the historic concrete steps. The lounge and lobby were moved to the first floor, and new bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry facilities were added to each of the floors. In 2000, another complete renovation was accomplished. The old southwest wing was demolished, and a new central wing was added to the west. Although it has undergone several renovations, the structure maintains its original architectural integrity, and is a contributing resource within the Oklahoma College for Women National Historic District.
