TULSA, OK

Mabee Center, Oral Roberts University, Walnut Creek, Tulsa, OK Built in 1972, this Modern Futurist building was designed by Frank William Wallace to serve as an arena for Oral Roberts University. The building houses a 10,000-seat arena and the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, and was named for John Mabee, an oil tycoon whom donated $1 million for the building’s construction. Until the completion of the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa in 2008, the Mabee Center was the largest arena in Eastern Oklahoma. The arena is connected to a smaller, elliptical-shaped structure, which is known as the Global Learning Center, with both structures undergoing significant renovations in 2021. The buildings feature tapered exterior walls and exterior pillars, standing seam metal cladding, large glass exterior walls flanking rough-hewn stone panels and concrete pillars, exterior staircases, entrance canopies, and a large parking lot surrounding the building. The building is one of the many significant Modernist buildings on the campus of Oral Roberts University.
