PIONEER WOMAN STATUE

The Pioneer Woman Statue is a 17-foot-tall bronze sculpture located in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The statue was commissioned by E.W. Marland, an oil baron and former governor of Oklahoma, in honor of the women who played a vital role in settling the American West. The statue was dedicated on April 22, 1930, and is considered one of the largest freestanding bronze sculptures in the country.

The statue depicts a pioneer woman dressed in traditional clothing, holding a Bible in one hand and a pioneer family in the other. The woman is standing atop a pedestal, which is inscribed with the words "In appreciation of the heroic character of the pioneer woman of the world, whose courage and fortitude have been the foundation of civilization."

The Pioneer Woman Statue was created by sculptor Bryant Baker and was cast in Paris, France. The statue was transported to Ponca City by train and erected in a park named after E.W. Marland. The statue has become a symbol of the pioneering spirit and has inspired many visitors to learn more about the history of the American West.

In 2006, the Pioneer Woman Statue was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The statue remains a popular tourist attraction in Ponca City and is considered a significant piece of American art.
