Silicon Valley Lines (SVL) is a rail transit agency located in San Jose, California. It serves the greater San Francisco Bay Area with light rail, commuter rail, and bus services. Founded in 1998, SVL is the largest transit agency in the Bay Area, serving over 2 million customers each year.
The light rail system currently consists of four lines east of San Jose, with the Alum Rock line running north-south and the Santa Teresa line running east-west. The light rail system connects San Jose with Santa Clara, Milpitas, Fremont, and other destinations. The light rail system includes stops at the San Jose International Airport, the SAP Center, Levi's Stadium, and other popular destinations.
The commuter rail system, also known as the Caltrain, is operated by SVL in partnership with the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (PCJPB). The commuter rail system connects San Francisco with San Jose, Gilroy, and other destinations. Each weekday, over 58,000 passengers ride the Caltrain, making it one of the busiest commuter rail systems in the United States.
The bus system operated by SVL includes local and express routes throughout the Bay Area. The express routes connect San Francisco with San Jose, Oakland, and other major destinations. The local routes serve communities in the Bay Area, providing access to shopping, employment, and other destinations.
In addition to its rail and bus services, SVL also operates paratransit services for customers who are unable to use its regular services. SVL also provides planning and engineering services for transit projects in the Bay Area.
