Gardner Building, Madison Avenue and Superior Street, Toledo, OH Built in 1893, this Renaissance Revival-style building was designed by Charles Gardner for his family to serve as a commercial office building.  The building remained under the ownership of the family until 1969, and was the first home of the Toledo Museum of Art upon its founding in 1901.  The building features a yellow roman brick exterior with terra cotta trim, a rusticated terra cotta-clad first floor facade, terra cotta belt coursing at the second floor, arched window bays a the first floor, one-over-one double-hung windows, decorative trim surrounds at the windows on the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth floors, a cornice with modillions and dentils, quoins, arched entrance portals, a rear light court, and a rough-hewn stone base.  The building is a contributing structure in the Madison Avenue Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998, and expanded to its present size in 2021.

Historical Construction Equipment Association (HCEA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the construction, dredging and surface mining equipment industries. Based in Bowling Green, Ohio, HCEA operates an international membership-based organization with the mission of preserving, restoring and displaying historic construction and earthmoving equipment. The organization's members are passionate about the history of these industries and the equipment that helped shape our industrial heritage.
