The Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) is a private college of art and design located in Cleveland, Ohio. Founded in 1882, it is the oldest independent college of art and design in the United States. CIA offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in twelve majors, a Bachelor of Science in Art Education, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in seven majors.

CIA is committed to providing a quality education in the visual arts and design to develop students’ creative, cultural and professional skills. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, creative problem solving and individual expression. Classes are offered in studio arts, art history, design, craft, digital media and photography.

CIA provides students with access to the resources of an urban art school, including an extensive library, galleries, and visiting artists and lecturers. The Reinberger Gallery, a major exhibition space on campus, annually presents rotating exhibits from CIA students, faculty and alumni. The Institute also operates the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, one of the nation’s only independent cinemas.

CIA has a long and proud history of producing successful alumni, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in their respective fields. The Institute is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the Ohio Board of Regents, and the Higher Learning Commission.
