No Ordinary Morning For being a &quot;tri-state&quot; excursion, there was very little time spent in Ohio - they started and ended there, no doubts about that, but the tracks were only a few miles. Those few miles of Ohio-based Indiana Northeastern Railroad trackage do not provide many photo opportunities that aren't just a barrel-down telesmash shot. Those are fine in their own right, and I take and post them myself, but I want more than just that.

I didn't even shoot Edon or anywhere else in Ohio on day one of the two-day excursions. Day two, however, and I was inspired to visit a crossing nearby town that morning. There, I met with some newly-familiar faces and other railfans, and waited a little while.

With the air just cool enough for steam, the Nickel Plate Road 765 departed Edon with its Hancock 3 chime adorned to the boiler and gave us a gorgeous show that only a steam engine can grant. I'm generally more of a diesel enthusiast these days, but there is a certain beauty that steam engines provide that little else can match. What a start to the second - and last - day of chasing.
