The Noble County Courthouse in Caldwell, Ohio is a historic building located in the center of the city. The original courthouse was built in 1881 and designed by architect W.W. Boyington. The building is a two-story structure made of brick and stone. The building features a central clock tower with a bell and a cupola on top. The clock tower is surmounted by a statue of Justice, and the cupola is topped with a bronze eagle. The building is surrounded by a low brick wall and has an open plaza in front. The main entrance of the building is a large, ornate doorway with a portico and a pediment. Inside the courthouse are courtrooms, offices, and a public meeting room. The interior is decorated with marble, woodwork, and ornate plasterwork. A large stained glass window at the back of the building commemorates the history of the county. The Noble County Courthouse is an important part of the local history and a reminder of the county's commitment to justice.

Lamping Homestead Recreation Area The Lamping Homestead Recreation Area offers camping, picnicking, fishing, canoeing, and a scenic hiking trail. The site has six walk-in campsites, eight picnic sites, and a picnic shelter. There are two loop trails for hiking, one at 3½ miles and the other at 1½ miles. A 2-acre pond at the site is stocked with bluegill, bass, and catfish. This secluded recreation area was once the farmstead of the Lamping family. The family homesteaded this area in the 1800s. Watch You Crawl One particular location on the BIP is worse than all others in terms of track condition, with severe bumps and misalignments left and right. Here, BIP578 slowly, slowly pulls away from that section, but there are still plenty of cars that must finish traversing the large bump before they can move any faster than a mere crawl. If nothing else, the ratty trackwork does make it nice and easy to get ahead of the train, that's for sure.
Cleaning Up The Act BIP578s southbound train has re-entered the sort of rattier section of the BIP once again on its way back to Parkersburg. Along the Ohio River, their tracks are in pretty good shape and they can get some decent speeds, but large chunks of track between Rainbow and Waterford are in fairly rough shape. Things have certainly improved on much of it since the BIP came online a few years ago, but there's clearly much work to go seeing as our train has slowed to little more than a crawl. One crossing along Muskingum River Road seems to be the most well known, and there have been some clear improvements since some of the most popular photos of the spot from when the shortline was brand new, though it's only half of the picture. Just beyond the crossing and behind me, the roadbed has shifted in every which direction on seemingly unstable ground. Bumpy is putting it lightly, things don't look great back there. The dramatic shifts from heavy industrial area to almost midwest-esque scenery to the seemingly crumbling trackwork in the shadows of the trees is what drew me to the Belpre-Industrial Parkersburg. There's really a little something for everybody on this little railroad.
