The Ross County Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Chillicothe, Ohio. It was established in 1896 by a group of local history enthusiasts, and since then, it has been dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history and heritage of Ross County.

The society operates out of the former Ross County Jail, which was built in 1818 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building has been restored and converted into a museum that houses various exhibits, artifacts, and collections related to the county's history.

Anthropologist says digging is but one part I went on a hike looking for ancient history. I thought I was the only one on the trail. When I came out of the woods, I was surprised to see an anthropologist (actually several) digging for artifacts of America's ancient Hopewell Culture.
