The Pioneer Cemetery Preservation Group (PCPG) is a non-profit organization located in Kent, Ohio. Founded in 2009, the group is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of neglected and abandoned cemeteries in the area. The PCPG aims to provide a respectful, educational and meaningful experience for those who visit these cemeteries.
The PCPG has identified over 300 abandoned cemeteries in Portage County and surrounding areas. They work to locate and document cemeteries, restore headstones and monuments, and provide educational opportunities and community outreach. As part of their commitment to education, the PCPG also offers cemetery tours and lectures, as well as the annual Portage County Cemetery Walk.
The PCPG is funded by donations, grants, and fundraising efforts. The organization is run by a volunteer board of directors and a small staff. The board of directors consists of local historians, genealogists, and community members who are passionate about preserving and restoring these cemeteries.
The PCPG works hard to ensure that the local community is aware of the importance of preserving and restoring these cemeteries. They have successfully restored several cemeteries in the Kent area, and continue to work to preserve and restore more cemeteries in the coming years. By preserving and restoring these cemeteries, the PCPG is preserving the history and culture of the local community.
