Gingras House and Trading Post is a historic landmark located in Walhalla, North Dakota. The building was constructed in 1845 by Charles Gingras, a French-Canadian fur trader, and served as his family home and trading post. The Gingras House is one of the oldest surviving structures in North Dakota and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The building is a two-story log structure with a steeply pitched roof and a central chimney. The interior of the house features a large central room with a fireplace and a loft above. The trading post, located in a separate room, was used to exchange goods with the local Native American tribes.
Today, visitors can tour the Gingras House and Trading Post to learn about the history of the region and the life of Charles Gingras. The site also includes a museum with exhibits on the fur trade, Native American culture, and the history of Walhalla.
Gingras House and Trading Post is open seasonally from May to September and offers guided tours, educational programs, and special events. It is a popular destination for history buffs, school groups, and tourists interested in the early days of North Dakota.
