Arches Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Huntsville, AL that provides a variety of services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1978, Arches Inc. has been providing support and services to individuals in Madison and the surrounding counties for over 40 years.

Arches Inc. provides a range of services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including day training and habilitation, supported employment, case management, respite services, and in-home family supports. Day training and habilitation services provide educational, recreational and social activities for individuals in a supervised setting. Supported employment services help individuals with disabilities find and maintain competitive employment within the community. Case management helps individuals with disabilities gain access to the services they need to live independently in the community. Respite services provide short-term time away from home to individuals and their families. Finally, in-home family supports provide assistance with daily living activities, such as housecleaning, shopping, and cooking.

Arches Inc. is committed to providing quality services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The organization offers a variety of programs and services to meet the needs of each individual, and provides ongoing support to ensure that individuals can live as independently as possible.

Rockets Away! 2012 Student Launch Projects (NASA, Marshall, 4/22/12) Specially crafted rockets soared high into the skies April 22 at the 2011-12 NASA Student Launch Projects challenge. More than 500 students, representing 53 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in 28 states, launched rockets of their own design -- complete with working science payloads or engineering payloads -- at Bragg Farms in Toney, Ala. The students vied to see whose rocket could come closest to the 1-mile altitude goal and safely return its onboard science payload to Earth. Fifty-one teams took part, though two faced mechanical or technical issues and did not launch. Ten preliminary awards were presented, and the grand prize -- $5,000 from ATK Aerospace Group in Salt Lake City, Utah -- will be awarded May 18 after final post-flight analysis and review are complete. Great Moonbuggy Race, 1994 (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1994) The NASA Great Moonbuggy Race is an annual event, held at the US Space and Rocket Center and organized by the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., in which high school and college students are challenged to design, build and race lightweight, human-powered moonbuggies that tackle many of the same engineering challenges dealt with by Apollo-era lunar rover developers at Marshall in the late 1960s. This photograph of the University of Alabama at Huntsville moonbuggy team was taken during the first running of the event at Redstone Arsenal in 1994 over the actual course where the original lunar roving vehicles were tested. LAGEOS I Laser Geodynamics Satellite (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1976) The LAGEOS I, Laser Geodynamics Satellite, was launched on May 4,1976 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. The two-foot diameter, 900-pound satellite orbited the Earth from pole to pole and measured the movements of the Earth's surface relative to earthquakes, continental drift, and other geophysical phenomena. The mirrored surface of the satellite precisely reflected laser beams from ground stations for accurate ranging measurements. Scientists at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. came up with the idea for the satellite and built it at the Marshall Center. TBEX Comes to NASA NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center hosted participants attending The Travel Blog Exchange conference for a tour of the center May 4, 2017. TBEX is the largest conference and networking event for travel bloggers, online travel journalists and social media enthusiasts. The group toured facilities that are building hardware for the Space Launch System, NASA’s new rocket, and also got visit the Payload Operations Integration Center which monitors science experiments for the International Space Station 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365-days a year.
