The Whalehead Club is a historic mansion located in the town of Corolla, North Carolina. Originally built in 1925 by wealthy industrialist Edward Collings Knight Jr. as a hunting lodge, the mansion was designed in the Art Nouveau style by architect Frank Stick.
The mansion features 21 rooms and is situated on 39 acres of land overlooking the Currituck Sound. It was constructed using reinforced concrete, which was a novel building material at the time. The interior of the mansion features original furnishings and decor, including hand-painted ceilings and Tiffany stained glass windows.
In 1992, the Whalehead Club was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the mansion is open to the public for tours and events. Visitors can explore the grounds and learn about the history of the mansion and its former owners.
In addition to the mansion, the Whalehead Club also features a restored boathouse and a wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to a variety of native birds and is a popular spot for birdwatching. The Whalehead Club is a must-see destination for anyone visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
