The Almond Historical Society is a non-profit organization located in Almond, New York. The society was founded in 1976 with the goal of preserving and sharing the history of the town of Almond and its surrounding areas. Jackson Hotel and Health Resort Chef Also known as the "Castle on the Hill," "Our Home on the Hillside," and the "Jackson Sanitorium, The Jackson Hotel and Health Resort promoted healthy living through holistic practices from 1858 to 1986. This chef would have been in charge of preparing meals for both the patients and staff. The foods eaten at the Jackson Health Resort were usually light such as soups or granula. Not to be confused with granola; granula was the first cold breakfast cereal and was invented by the hotel's founder Dr. James Caleb Jackson and manufactured in Dansville NY.
