The Cobblestone Society in Albion, New York is a living history organization dedicated to preserving the history of the cobblestone style of architecture found in the area. Founded in 1974, the Society is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that has been working to preserve and restore cobblestone buildings and sites, as well as to educate the public about the history of cobblestones in the region.

Cobblestone architecture, sometimes known as “pavement architecture”, is found almost exclusively in the New York Finger Lakes region, and was popular in the early 1800s. The walls of these buildings were constructed with cobblestones, often collected from farm fields and streams. This type of architecture is characterized by its unique use of round, smooth stones, often with mortar joints, to create a two-tone pattern.

The Society has worked to preserve and restore more than 60 cobblestone buildings, as well as a variety of other local sites. They offer tours and educational programs to the public, and host an annual cobblestone festival in Albion. Through their efforts, the Cobblestone Society has helped to preserve and share the history of cobblestone architecture in the area.

January 31, 2022: A. M. Ives House aka "Stonehurst", Medina, New York Erected in 1861 using the less common pink variety of the superior-quality sandstone that made Medina, New York famous, the sumptouous A. M. Ives House - otherwise known as Stonehurst - functions almost as a primer on the principles of Italian Villa-style residential architecture. First Presbyterian Church, Medina, New York, October 2021 First Presbyterian Church, 522 Main Street, Medina, New York, October 2021. Built in 1893 to a design by an unknown architect and a contributing property to the NRHP-listed Main Street Historic District, this is an example of Romanesque Revival church architecture that's notable for its modest scale and light massing: raking arched corbel tables underlie the gables on both the main portion of the building and atop the squat tower, interspersed in the former case by simple stepped buttresses. Its windows are small in size and topped in all cases by round arches, with a quatrefoil pattern in the roundel at the top center of the façade. The village's second-oldest religious congregation, First Presbyterian was founded in 1829.
Former Hart House Hotel; R. H. Newell & Co., Medina, New York, May 2021 The three-story, five-bay-wide, red brick building at 111-115 West Center Street in Medina, New York's Main Street Historic District is about as fine an example of High Victorian Italianate commercial architecture as you'll find anywhere in America. Built about 1876 by Jacob Gorton, the most eye-catching features on this exquisite façade are the Renaissance-inspired keystone-studded crowns over the segmental-arched windows, whose light-colored gray Medina sandstone makes for a striking color contrast vis-à-vis the rest of the exterior. These window crowns feature horizontal projections at their base which, together with the similarly fashioned sandstone windowsills, make for ersatz string courses that span more-or-less the entirety of the façade. Almost as impressive is the prominent wooden cornice at the roofline, undergirded by ornate carved scroll brackets and an impressive row of corbelling. The segmental-arched main entrance is framed by a wide transom and sidelights, which, according to historic photographs, were in turn once framed by a porch topped with a wooden balustrade. The building's two longest-tenured occupants were the Hart House, operated by E. Kirk Hart between 1880 and 1919 as one of four hotels in the village, and Robert H. Newell & Co., a manufacturer of high-end custom-fitted men's shirts and other accessories that did business here from 1919 until 2004. It was purchased from Newell in 2005 by Andrew Meier and is now a mixed-use facility housing a cafe, meadery, law office, and a revived, boutique version of the Hart House Hotel.

Students are taught basic gardening, soil conservation with worms, planting a pollinator garden, and raising butterflies to be set free at the garden. Royalton-Hartland School District, comprised of an elementary, middle, and high school, has approximately 1,300 K-12 students in Middleport, NY, which is a remote, rural part of eastern Niagara County. Royalton-Hartland School District received a FY 2021 Farm to School Implementation grant to provide engaging, hands-on programming that promotes a healthy lifestyle; increases student knowledge of how to grow, prepare, and store fresh produce; and exposes students to the multitude of career opportunities in the growing local agriculture industry. In collaboration with district partners, including Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County, Blackman Family Farms, and the Royalton-Hartland Agriculture Foundation, Royalton-Hartland School District is in the process of developing a K-12 curriculum, engaging teachers in the integration of the farm to school vision on a district-wide basis, equipping kitchen facilities to increase the capacity to store, prepare and serve locally sourced foods, and upgrading classrooms for project-based learning experiences.
