Hyde Hall is a historic country mansion located in Cooperstown, New York. Built between 1817 and 1834, it is considered one of the finest examples of neoclassical architecture in the United States. The mansion sits atop a hill overlooking Otsego Lake and features 50 rooms spread over three floors.
The exterior of Hyde Hall is characterized by its impressive Greek Revival portico, with six massive columns supporting a pedimented roof. Inside, the mansion is adorned with elaborate plasterwork, hand-carved woodwork, and elegant furnishings. Visitors can explore the grand entrance hall, formal drawing room, dining room, and library, as well as the family's private quarters on the upper floors.
Hyde Hall has a rich history, having been owned and occupied by five generations of the Clarke family. It was also used as a set for the 1993 film "The Age of Innocence" directed by Martin Scorsese. Today, the mansion is open to the public for guided tours, and it also hosts various events and weddings throughout the year. Visitors can learn about its architectural significance, its role in Cooperstown's history, and the lives of the Clarke family who called it home for nearly 200 years.
