AMERICAN FRIENDS OF THE SHANGHAI MUSEUM

American Friends of the Shanghai Museum (AFSM) is a non-profit organization based in New York City that connects the American public to the Shanghai Museum and its extraordinary collection of Chinese art. Founded in 1988, the organization works to build awareness of Chinese culture and to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the Shanghai Museum’s cultural and artistic heritage.

AFSM supports the Shanghai Museum through financial donations, educational programs, and advocacy initiatives. Through its fundraising efforts, AFSM has enabled the Shanghai Museum to purchase a number of important works of art and to conduct research on new acquisitions.

AFSM also provides a range of educational programs to introduce the American public to Chinese art and culture. To this end, AFSM has forged partnerships with a number of leading American museums and institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, and the China Institute.
