Broadway Housing Communities (BHC) is a non-profit housing organization that provides affordable housing and supportive services to low-income New Yorkers in the Harlem and Washington Heights communities of New York City. BHC was founded in 1980 by a group of volunteer activists and has since grown to become one of the largest community-based organizations in the United States devoted to providing affordable housing.
BHC currently owns and manages over 1,000 units of housing in the Harlem and Washington Heights neighborhoods. The organization provides a range of services to its residents, including case management, job training, educational and recreational programs, and community development activities. BHC also supports its residents with financial literacy classes, healthcare and nutrition education, job readiness training, legal services, and access to public benefits.
In addition to providing housing and supportive services, BHC also works to build strong and vibrant communities through its economic development programs. These programs provide residents with access to financial services, job training, and business development opportunities. BHC also works with local businesses to create employment opportunities for local residents and to strengthen the local economy.
