The only surviving (though heavily restored) Roman rectangular shield (scutum), discovered in a tower at Dura that had probably been undermined by Sassanid besiegers in 256 CE. It would once have borne a bronze boss (umbo) covering the central handgrip.

The Morocco Palace of Arts Foundation is a non-profit organization located in New York City, dedicated to promoting Moroccan art, culture and heritage in the United States. The organization works to support and develop Moroccan art, culture and heritage through the means of education, exhibitions, performances, workshops and conferences. It has also established a Moroccan Cultural Arts Center in midtown Manhattan, which serves as a hub for Moroccan cultural activities in the city.

The Foundation was founded in 2011 by a group of Moroccan-Americans who wanted to create a space to share and celebrate the richness of their culture with the larger community. Since its inception, the Foundation has organized and hosted a variety of events, including art exhibitions, lectures and panels, film screenings, dance and music performances, and workshops. It also organizes educational and cultural tours in Morocco, as well as cultural exchange programs and language classes.

The Foundation's main objective is to promote the appreciation and understanding of Moroccan art, culture and heritage. It works towards this goal by providing access to information and resources on Moroccan culture, collaborating with other organizations and institutions to create more opportunities for cultural exchange, and engaging in community outreach. The Foundation also seeks to bridge the gap between the Moroccan diaspora and the wider American community by highlighting the contributions of Moroccans to the American cultural landscape.
