USS Slater (DE-766) is a Cannon-class destroyer escort located in Albany, NY. The ship was built in 1943 by the Bethlehem Steel Company in Staten Island, NY and was the last World War II escort still afloat. She served with distinction in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters until being decommissioned in 1946.

USS Slater is a ship of many firsts. She was the first ship to be named after Frank O. Slater, a US Navy sailor killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor. She was also the first of her class to be equipped with a state-of-the-art sonar system.

Today, USS Slater is a museum ship and a memorial to all who served in the US Navy during World War II. She is open daily for self-guided tours, as well as special events such as living history enactments, educational programs, and lectures. Visitors can explore the ship’s engine room, crew’s quarters, and the captain’s cabin, as well as view artifacts from the war.
