The Empire State Plaza Art Collection, located in Albany, New York, is a comprehensive collection of modern and contemporary art. The collection began in 1965 when Nelson A. Rockefeller, then Governor of New York, commissioned a series of works for the new Empire State Plaza. The collection now contains over 7,000 objects, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, prints and installations.

The collection is displayed in the Plaza and in the New York State Museum, the Cultural Education Center and the Egg. The works are all located outdoors, in public places, such as the Plaza's reflecting pools, the State Museum's courtyards, and the Egg's lobby. The works range from traditional paintings and sculptures to site-specific installations.

Notable pieces in the collection include Alexander Calder’s “The Great Fountain”, a large-scale kinetic sculpture; Mark di Suvero’s “The Eagle”, an enormous steel sculpture; and Roy Lichtenstein’s “Modern Head”, a towering bronze sculpture.

The collection is managed by the New York State Office of Cultural Education, whose mission is to preserve, interpret and promote the artworks of the Empire State Plaza Art Collection. The office provides educational materials and programs for the public and organizes special events.
