Carex chalciolepis - Holm sedge Holm sedge growing in the summit area of Wheeler Peak, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Taos County, New Mexico. The terminal spikelet is primarily female (any male flower restricted to the base of the terminal spikelet). All spikelets below are with female flowers. The dark pistillate bracts are conspicuously longer than the perigynia, and the perigynia are papillose especially towards the beak. This sedge species was most conspicuous along the alpine ridgelines in this area.
