Gila National Forest NM Emory Pass (# 0813) From the Emory Pass overlook (alt 8228 ft) on NM-152, looking east. The scatter of buildings in the lower center of the picture with the road going through is the town of Kingston, a short-lived silver mining town of the late 1800's. The green patch surrounded by desert mountains, to the right of center, is probably Caballo Reservoir on the Rio Grande (see later picture of Caballo).

Gila National Forest NM Emory Pass - fire (# 0815) Excellent sign at Emory Pass overlook describing the 2013 Silver Fire that covered over 200 sq miles. The sign was a good, educational, description of the role of humans in fires and the historic role of fires in forest maintenance.
