Blackwater Draw National Historic Landmark Trailhead 13,000 years ago Blackwater Draw was a lake, at the time, the headwaters of the Brazos River. The trail at the site is loop around the lake area. This is a view back toward the trailhead, between the pines, going back to the Visitor's Center.

Blackwater Draw National Historic Landmark is where the first evidence was found of humans hunting mammoths. The artifacts found are of the Clovis culture, the oldest positively defined cultural group in North America. They date back approximately 12,750 years. The site was discovered in 1929 and excavations began in 1932. Archeological digs have only been done on about 7% of the area.
