The East Contra Costa Irrigation District (ECCID) is a public agency in Brentwood, California, that provides irrigation, flood control, and water supply services. ECCID serves the cities of Brentwood, Oakley, Discovery Bay, Knightsen, Byron, and Marsh Creek. It also serves unincorporated areas in the East Contra Costa County.
ECCID was formed in 1928 to provide irrigation water to the agricultural lands of East Contra Costa County. Today, ECCID provides water to over 10,000 acres of agricultural land, as well as residential and commercial customers. The district's service area includes over 300 miles of canals, pipelines, and other water delivery facilities.
ECCID is governed by a five-member Board of Directors elected by the district's customers. The Board sets policies and regulations, determines water rates, and approves the annual budget. The Board also appoints a general manager who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of ECCID.
ECCID has several programs in place to help customers conserve water. These programs include rebate programs for water-efficient appliances and devices, water-use education, and weather-based irrigation controllers.
ECCID also works to protect the environment by regularly monitoring water quality and conducting research on water-related issues. The district also works with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
