Headless Lamb In the western US, small statues of lambs laying down frequently appear on childrens' monuments. When carved in marble, they have a tendency to degrade and crack at weak points. Sadly, one of those points is the neck of the sculpture. So it is with our poor baby here. Sometime between 1917 and 2023, the lamb's head fell off and disappeared.
Shaded Gates of Heaven Whenever I see the name of the person who bought the monument as part of the engraving I always wonder about the motivations. Do they just want credit for the gesture? Is it to shame someone else who <i>should have</i> paid? Did the decedent and the benefactor share a forbidden love? We may never know.
Eh? A combination of the decedent's initials, E.H. A century after it was carved it looks more like a corporate logo than initials.
