Layia glandulosa - whitedaisy tidytips Layia glandulosa growing on an unstable hillside adjacent to mountain big sagebrush steppe in good ecological condition. It is notable that Layia glandulosa, perhaps like many species of the tarweed subgroup of Asteraceae, is more abundant where disturbance is regular. This species was not observed in the adjacent sagebrush steppe. This site occurs along the Thomas Creek Drainage just east of the Thomas Creek trailhead, southwest Reno, Carson Range, Washoe County, Nevada.

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad Historical Society Inc, located in Carson City, NV, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus - yellow rabbitbrush Yellow (or green) rabbitbrush growing in the open understory of Jeffrey Pine forest along Whites Creek, Carson Range, Washoe County, Nevada. Twisted strap-shaped leaves are in part diagnostic of this rabbitbrush species. Yellow rabbitbrush usually occurs more out in the open (e.g., it is abundant in recently burned Wyoming big sagebrush steppe) but here it is sporadic in the lower elevation understory of the Carson Range.
