Twisted strap-shaped leaves are in part diagnostic of this rabbitbrush species. Yellow rabbitbrush usually occurs more out in the open (e.g., it is abundant in recently burned Wyoming big sagebrush steppe) but here it is sporadic in the lower elevation understory of the Carson Range.
