Yellow rabbitbrush usually occurs more out in the open (e.g., it is abundant in recently burned Wyoming big sagebrush steppe) but here it is sporadic in the lower elevation understory of the Carson Range.

Ericameria nauseosa - rubber rabbitbrush With a shrubby growth habit, predilection to regularly disturbed sites (i.e., roadsides), twigs covered with a felt-like tomentum, and flowering heads comprising about five flowers and surrounded by involucral bracts in a distinctly graduated series, this has to be Ericameria nauseosa or rubber rabbitbrush. The long cylindrical flowering heads with each involucral bract having a recurved tip is most distinctive. This site lies along North Timberline Drive between Whites and Thomas Creeks, southwest Reno, Washoe County, Nevada.
