Fourth Ward School is a historic building located in Virginia City, Nevada. It was built in 1876 and served as a school for the local community until 1936. The school was designed by architect Edward S. Townsend and is considered one of the finest examples of Second Empire architecture in the western United States.

The building is constructed of brick and stone and features a mansard roof, dormer windows, and decorative ironwork. It has four floors and a central tower, which was originally used as a bell tower. The school was designed to accommodate up to 1,000 students, and at its peak, it had an enrollment of over 600.

The Fourth Ward School was innovative in its approach to education, offering a broad curriculum that included not only academic subjects but also music, art, and physical education. The school was also one of the first in the country to offer free textbooks to its students.

Today, the Fourth Ward School is a museum that preserves the history of education in Nevada. Visitors can tour the building and see exhibits that showcase the school's history, as well as the history of Virginia City and the surrounding area. The Fourth Ward School is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in the history of education in the American West.
